UNPROFESSIONAL CODE WORDS
Dec 17, 2022UNPROFESSIONAL CODE WORDS
It really does not matter what industry, or profession you are working with as a consumer, you will find that they all have their own vocabulary of code words. True professionals, know better than to ever say certain code words such as:
“TRUST ME”
The need to convince someone you are trustworthy causes others to think otherwise and make them suspicious. Trust is earned and not asked for. This phrase is unprofessional because you have to provide evidence and proof to earn trust. “Trust me” conveys a delay until a solution is developed. Instead, acknowledge that you are still working on finding a solution and why the solution will work.
“I’M AN EXPERT...”
“I HAVE 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE...”
Pontificating and telling someone will not automatically convince them. You must demonstrate your knowledge with research and knowledge of the topic.
"IT'S OUR POLICY..."
“THIS IS THE WAY WE DO THIS...”
This communicates that you and the system prefer "no think policy" and do not care about what concerns the parents have. There's no better way to be perceived as unprofessional. When asked, it is rare that any of that policy is in writing.
Professionalism is demonstrated by how you behave and speak. Voicing opinions is easy but a professional will get their point across without voicing personal feelings.
